Heritage Christmas Cookies

This recipe came from Wayne's cousin, Rachel*, who remembers making these every year for Christmas. I love family history recipes, especially when they're delicious!

Grandma Doris' Butter Cookies

1/2 lb butter
2/3 cup white sugar
3 egg yolks (beaten)
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp almond extract

Cream butter and sugar. Add beaten egg yolks. Mix in almond extract. Add flour.

Refrigerate over night (or for a couple of hours at least.) Let it sit out to soften and then begin rolling on a well floured surface.

Cut cookies with Christmas cookie cutters. Place on non-greased cookie sheet.

Before baking, brush lightly with evaporated milk and add sprinkles.

Bake at 350 for 8-10 minutes. They shouldn’t brown. They come out looking white still. Cool on baking rack and store in airtight container.

*We have made these every Christmas since I can remember. I was told Grandma Whitaker (Doris) made these for the big Christmas party they threw every year. They are delicious! Enjoy! Note that it doesn't make a large batch, so I usually double or triple the recipe.
