Two New Condiments
We received a jar of bacon jam for Christmas, and then, just a few weeks later, a jar of pepper jelly just for fun. These are items I’ve never used before, so we turned to the internet to get some ideas. Here they are!
Uses for Bacon Jam
• add to a grilled cheese sandwich
• spread on a toasted baguette
• swap it for bacon on a BLT
• stuff a chicken breast with it
• add it to a hamburger
• add to scrambled eggs
• stir into mashed potatoes
• toss with roasted potatoes
• toss with pasta and sauce
• mix into guacamole
• mix into sour cream for a dip
• use to make a dressing for spinach salad
So far we haven’t used much of our imagination, and have stuck with adding the bacon jam to sandwiches. However, that works well, so why change?
Uses for Pepper Jelly
• as a glaze for pork chops (see photo below – add a smidgen while cooking)
• as a glaze for salmon
• to make candied bacon
• as a dip for chicken wings
• as a dip for chicken tenders
• mix with ranch and use it to top grilled chicken
• as a spread for crackers – mix with cream cheese
• as a dip for vegetables – mix with sour cream
• as a sandwich spread (ham or chicken) – mix with mayonnaise (just 1/4 teaspoon for one sandwich was plenty)
