Trail Mix Options
The other day I searched for tv snack options that weren't plain nuts or buttered popcorn. Here are some ideas that I found. Maybe one of these days we'll try each of them!
Salted Chocolate Popcorn Trail Mix (from Nourished)
- 1/4 cup jumbo popcorn kernels
- 1/4 cup dark chocolate (I used about a quarter of a dark chocolate bar)
- 1 teaspoon butter (or try coconut oil for dairy free and vegan option)
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt, or to taste (a couple good grinds of sea salt or pink Himalayan salt)
- 1/4 cup chopped raw or roasted almonds (or any seed or nut of your choice)
- 1/4 cup of chocolate chips (mini or regular, dark or milk chocolate – your choice)
- 2 tablespoons sweetened shredded coconut (or other dried fruit)
Pop the popcorn. (Did you know there's such a thing as "jumbo" popcorn kernels? I didn't, but I'll have to go look for them in my grocery store. Update: Couldn't find them.) Melt the chocolate and butter together, then drizzle over the popcorn. Toss with the remaining ingredients and enjoy!
There are a lot of ideas from the Jolly Time Popcorn website. Here are two of them.
Apple Cinnamon Popcorn
- 12 cups popped popcorn
- 1 cup walnut pieces, toasted
- 1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted
- 3 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 cup dried apple chunks or cherries or cranberries
Quick Churro Popcorn
- 5 cups popped popcorn
- 2-3 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
And here are three from this site - Walder Wellness
Tropical Trail Mix:
- 1 cup raw cashews
- 1/2 cup raw almonds
- 1/2 cup unsweetened coconut chips
- 2 cups unsweetened dried mangos, chopped
- 1/2 cup banana chips
Instead of adding chocolate chips, I melted them and coated the nuts before mixing everything together.
Chocolate Raspberry Trail Mix:
- 3 cups plain popcorn
- 1 cup raw pecans
- 1/2 cup raw almonds
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips or pieces
- 1 cup freeze-dried raspberries
Ginger Apricot Trail Mix:
- 1 cup raw hazelnuts
- 1 cup raw pistachios
- 1/2 cup raw cashews
- 1/2 cup raw pumpkin seeds
- 1 cup dried apricots, chopped
- 1/3 cup crystallized ginger, chopped
