Sandwich Bread
We're having a lot of fun with our visiting family, but we are going through the bread more quickly than I had anticipated, so it was time to try making some. The one complaint I receive about homemade bread is that while it's awesome fresh out of the oven or turned into toast, it doesn't make good sandwiches. So rather than following a "tried and true" recipe, I looked for a specific "sandwich bread" one. I hope my adaptation of this one from King Arthur Flour works!
Classic Sandwich Bread
- 2 cups warm water
- 2 tablespoons yeast
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- 4 cups white flour
- 2 cups wheat flour
- 1/4 cup dry milk powder
- 2 1/2 teaspoons salt
Combine all ingredients in a large bowl. Knead in mixer or by hand until smooth. Place in lightly greased bowl and let rise for 1-2 hours. Gently punch down, divide in half, form into two loaves and place in greased 9x5" bread pans. Let rise about 1 hour. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
