Breakfast Strata
The bread crusts in the freezer are growing, and although in the past we didn't really care for French Toast Casserole, I thought maybe it was worth trying again. While looking for a recipe, I came across one that didn't call for cinnamon and syrup, but was basically a quiche batter poured over bread cubes. How intriguing! So we gave it a try.
Breakfast Strata
- 3-4 slices day-old bread
- 3 eggs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- salt and pepper to taste
- add-ins: cheese, bacon, ham, spinach, mushrooms, olives, etc.
Butter a small baking dish. (I used our mini cast-iron skillets.) Tear bread into pieces and place in the dish. Combine the eggs, milk, cream, and desired seasonings and add-ins. Pour over the bread. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes. Let set for a few minutes before serving.
The texture was actually quite nice. We may just try these again without any add-ins as a simple Baked French Toast! We did!! And our breakfast was absolutely delicious.
