Eggnog

 

Eggnog

  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2/3 cup cream
  • 1 1/3 cups milk
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
Combine egg yolks and sugar and set aside. In a saucepan, combine cream, milk, nutmeg and salt. Bring to a boil. Stir some into the egg mixture, then return all to pan. Cook for a minute, remove from heat. Stir in vanilla. Chill before serving.


Note: This was a bit thick after chilling, so I stirred in some milk. It also had a grainy texture, even after I tried straining it. It tasted more like a custard than a drink. I guess we'll do some more experimenting - or stick with eggnog from the grocery store for our holiday treat.
