Sunday Evening Treat
Donuts came up in the conversation this evening, as in "too bad we don't have any donuts in the house," and since I had already thought about baking some sort of treat for an evening snack, I googled donut recipes. This one for 15 Minute Donuts popped up. I prefer raised donuts, so knew these wouldn't be my favorite, but we had all the ingredients - even the buttermilk - and I figured it would be a good experiment. Surprisingly, this recipe really does only take about 15 minutes. (I was frying the first batch by minute 13.) As expected, they don't taste like yeast donuts, but they were still light and satisfying (although the dough does soak up a lot of oil). Maybe someday we'll make them again.
15 Minute Donuts
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 1/4 cups flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Place butter in a microwave-safe bowl and melt it. Stir in the buttermilk. Combine dry ingredients and mix in. Form into small balls and fry in heated oil until golden brown. Drain briefly and toss with sugar, cinnamon sugar, or spread with frosting. Makes about 16.
