Pie Time!

November’s Cooking Class: PIES

(or using the shortening/oil in your food storage)

This was originally posted on our Relief Society blog a decade ago, but that is really no longer accessible, and I want to remember this fun evening, so here it is on my blog. In 2009 we spent our monthly activities learning how to use the items in our food storage. November’s theme was oil/shortening. Maybe I’ll get around to sharing all of the other things we learned that year as well. We’ll see!

We started with a demonstration on how to make empanadas. Thanks, Jennifer!

And here are recipes for the various pies brought by other sisters (click on the title to go to the recipe):

Standard Pie Crust (remember you can freeze this)

Chicken Pot Pie

Butter Tarts

1-2-3 White Chocolate Pie

Chocolate Pecan Pies

Frozen Pumpkin Pie

Pumpkin Ginger Pie

Creamy Lemon Pie

Tiffany did our waist-lines a great favor and just brought a picture of a gorgeous apple-blackberry pie. In case you ever want to try it yourself, I found the recipe for you. Here you go!
