Bake Sale Cookbook Creations

It takes about six months to work our way through the Old-Fashioned Bake Sale Cookbook, doing one recipe from each section, with about 3 weeks in between each (because we alternate with the Columbia Restaurant Cookbook and the Dutch Oven Cookbook). Here are the recipes we tried on this latest trip through the book.

Chocolate Malted Cookies - We had to buy a new ingredient for these cookies - malted milk powder,  (in addition to some Whoppers). I'm not a fan of malt, so I wasn't expecting to like these, but I did. Maybe you will, too. Here's the recipe in case you're interested. (3/27/2021)

Cheesecake Bars - We tried the peach version of these bars. It wasn't our favorite (so far cherry has been the best), but that didn't stop us from eating all of them. (4/17/21)

Creamy Filled Brownies - The "orange version" (5/8/2021) with nuts in the batter, but not on top.

Mini Rocky Road Cups - While the original version was baked in regular muffins cups, this time we made 60 brownie bites, using our mini muffin pans. Just like last time, though, the topping kept falling off. I'd recommend using half the amount, and putting it on after only a few minutes in the oven instead of fifteen. Note also, that it's pretty impossible to mix peanuts, marshmallows and M&Ms. It's probably easier to sprinkle them on one at a time. (6/5/2021)

Blueberry Muffins - The first time we used fresh blueberries, this time frozen. (7/24/2021)

Take-Along Cake - Another variation, this time with margarine and pecans instead of butter and walnuts. (8/14/2021)

Lemon Buttermilk Pie - Here's a recipe we've never tried before!! (9/4/2021)

We've never had a custard pie before; it was interesting, but not our favorite. However, somewhere I read to garnish buttermilk pie with whipped cream and berries. Maybe we will have it again sometime!

Now it's back to the beginning of the book and the Cookie section.
