Strawberry Shortcake

It's strawberry season here, and here's one of our favorite ways to serve them. Strawberry Shortcake

2 cups flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 beaten egg
2/3 cup milk
sweetened strawberries
whipped cream

Stir together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut in butter. Combine egg and milk and stir into the dry ingredients. Spread dough in a greased cake pan. Bake at 450° for 15 minutes. Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then remove and carefully split into two layers. Spoon berries and cream between layers and over the top. Serve warm.
