November's Fruits and Vegetables

The title really should be "vegetables and fruits" to more accurately reflect the ratio, but "fruits and vegetables" sounds better. We continued eating our way down the "Aisle 1" produce sections in our local stores, even if we didn't try anything really new this month.

Broccoli Cauliflower Medley - Cook and serve with cheese sauce.

Broccoli Florets (the large bag) - The recipe on the back was for a pasta salad. Although it would be perfect for a potluck picnic, two pounds of pasta is way too much for two people to eat quickly, so I scaled it way down. Combine the cooked bowtie pasta with some cooked broccoli, green peas, chopped red pepper and minced red onion; then toss with Italian dressing and chill before serving.

In addition, we had plain broccoli served with the cheese sauce leftover from the previous week.

Vegetable Medley (the large bag) - This had the same recipe on the back of the bag as the smaller version, which we decided we didn't like, so I didn't make it. However, these vegetables taste just fine without anything added.

Corn on the Cob - After the bags of produce, we discovered some packaged vegetable trays. The corn on the cob was not as tasty as those fresh from the farm, but it wasn't bad either.

French Beans - The week after the corn, we noticed a previously empty spot was filled. French beans are not to be confused with regular green beans, although the only difference seemed to be that in this package, the pointy tip was not cut off.

Pineapple Spears (from Target) - Much better than last month's cantaloupe!

Applesauce (from Costco) - For the most part, we're eating this plain, but I may make some applesauce muffins, and we did try mixing it with peanut butter (50:50) for a new spread. We'll stick with having plain peanut butter on our toast, but it did taste good mixed into oatmeal.

Spicy Guacamole (from Whole Foods) - This did have a bit more kick to it than their regular guacamole, so it was aptly named.
