Coca Cola Wings or Sticks or Slabs
Wayne was surfing the internet the other day and decided he wanted to try this meat marinade - a can of coca cola mixed with 1/2 cup soy sauce. I looked up some variations and most of them suggest using only regular coke, not diet coke, because the sugar content helps with the crisping. However, since we only have diet Coke at home, I figure I can add some sugar to our marinade. We'll see how it turns out on football Saturday. (It turned out wonderfully!)
Are drumsticks cheaper than wings in your grocery store?
Coca Cola Wings
- one 12-ounce can coca cola
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar or honey
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 2 tablespoons ketchup, optional
- 1 tablespoon sherry, optional
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
Combine all ingredients. Marinate the meat for several hours. Remove the chicken wings from the marinade and brown in a skillet with some oil. Pour in the marinade; bring to a boil and simmer until sauce reduces and the chicken is cooked through.
We didn't pour all of the marinade over the chicken, so used it the next day on our New York steak. Since Wayne uses steak sauce, he said he didn't notice a difference; however, I felt the steak tasted sweeter. What would you think?
