2024 Bake Sale Recipes

We went through our Old-Fashioned Bake Sale Cookbook one and half times this year, ending with the last section on pies. That means we get to start with a cookie recipe in the new year (another version of Peanut Butter and Jelly Cookies). Just like last year, we had some variations of previous recipes, along with some that we liked more than others. Here's the list of what we made in 2024. Which one would be your favorite?

Banana Split Cupcakes - January 6th - Here's the link to the recipe. I'm not a fan of maraschino cherries, so these weren't my favorite. Thankfully we had some visitors to help us eat them all up.

Carrot and Raisin Muffins - February 3rd - Nothing special, so I won't bother posting the recipe - just add some raisins and grated carrots to your regular muffin recipe. However, for someone who's not a fan of raisins, it's not a bad way to use up the ones that might be sitting in your pantry.

Best Ever Apple Pie - March 30th - This is another fairly typical pie recipe, but it did give interesting directions for fluting the edges. And we finished another round through the cookbook! Next we're back to cookies.

Peanut Butter and Jelly Cookies - April 27th - This time we made the recipe with raspberry preserves.

Cheesecake Bars - June 8th - This last version using strawberry pie filling was my favorite so far. Try it yourself sometime.

Cheesecake-Topped Brownies - July 20th - Prepare a boxed brownie mix, then top with a cheesecake mixture (8 oz. cream cheese, 2 tablespoons butter, 1 tablespoon cornstarch, 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk, 1 egg and 2 teaspoons vanilla) before baking. I felt they turned out to be too dry and crumbly, but maybe that's because we used a cheap brownie mix. Different variations include topping the baked brownies with chocolate frosting and/or orange peel. Maybe that will make a difference.

Triple Chocolate Cupcakes - August 24th - Combine a dry chocolate cake mix, dry chocolate pudding mix (4 oz. instant), 1 cup sour cream, 1/2 cup vegetable oil, 1/2 cup water and 4 eggs. Stir in 2 cups chocolate chips. Scoop batter into 24-30 paper-lined muffin cups and bake for 22 minutes at 350 degrees. When cool, frost and decorate with sprinkles if desired.

Carrot and Raisin Muffins (version 2) - October 5th - See above, but this time we left out the allspice, and used paper liners. For some reason, this batch was much better than the last one. Maybe we really don't like allspice!

Crumb-Topped Lemon Cake - November 16th - Prepare a lemon cake as directed on box, then top with a streusel crumb mixture before baking. Isn't that easy? Yes, but the topping sunk into the batter! The end result still tasted okay, but since it's nothing really special, we won't be making it again.

S'more Pie - December 28th - While not exactly the same, this is very similar to our family favorite Candy Bar Pie. That means it is scrumptiously delicious! Find the recipe here. It's a great addition to the holiday feast.
